Foreword by Ian Courcoux

Colin Carruthers is a painter whose work I greatly admire. His strong seascapes often encompass the bleakness of an empty bay with the strength and coldness of a wild sea. This isn't water you want to swim in! The paintings have texture and what I can only term as 'guts' - they're not pretty or warm but I find them extremely compelling.

And after a recent trip to the west coast of Scotland, Colin has incorporated more colour and warmth into his palette, as in Oban Harbour, a truly lovely painting. Personally, I love his triptychs, sometimes framed and sometimes not, as there is an extra panoramic dimension to the image.

Colin Carruthers is now in his second successful year with the gallery and I believe that there will be many more to come.
