Life is often loosely portrayed as a river. The life of a family might span this river, which flows ineffably to the sea, a common metaphor for the collective unconscious. The bridge has six arches and my family had six members, my second family has three members. If the bus, the truck and the snail do represent Sarah, Nicola and myself, their identities are hidden within this pictorial trinity. Time is present on an ancestral hill. It has an inscrutable face. The white horse is etched into the hillside, a symbol of freedom and purity. The whole construction is a model of reality in a moment in time, to some extent the fate of all figurative art. |
