This is about the absurdity of worship. The church stresses the importance of praise and worship - it's a form of control for those who yearn to be controlled - and for this reason appears ludicrous, with its wheels, truncated nave and aspirational spire, a church racing around vowing to claim "souls", to be "relevant", a church itself mildly out of control. One of the great things about a cathedral would be its rootedness, its growth out of human soil, toil and faith. This church has been overtaken by crackpot evangelicalism. However, it's in the background. The worship to which it races is a scene of surrealist illogic to which it could add nothing in the way of sensible interpretation. It has been upstaged. |
