To me an angel is anyone who is supported aloft by a medium of well-being which evaporates when unconscious concentration is lost. Sleep is a form of unconscious concentration and insomnia can bring us crashing. Needless to say I've never been to Senegal but my daughter went to the Gambia, a slender penis of land that penetrates the beautiful-sounding Senegal, and this painting is a confection of vicarious imagining coinciding with my own recovery from illness and the ebbing of life from my wife's father. I hope, as I always do, that it contains a spiritual truth. |
