Such was the nature of Loopy Lee's bowling that the slips cordon would generally have been pointless, and the wicket keeper was best positioned close up to the stumps. It helped that he had the arms of an orangutan and could scamper like a chimp. Mostly Loopy's deliveries were got hold of on the half-volley, as in this case, and he proved grotesquely expensive for the occasional wickets he took. That he was the brother of the captain's secret paramour must have accounted for the number of overs he was given.
