After a night of intense prayer, doubt and the impossible hope of reprieve, morning is breaking and the events of the fateful day are set to proceed. The disciples, John, Peter and James, have long ago succumbed to sleep and Christ finds himself in a corner of the Garden contemplating a pool of water filling up from a hidden source above and pouring out on to the ground. A life poured out but eternally renewed. Behind his throne-like rock seat, odd phenomena are taking place in the growing light: from within, perhaps, the harmless transient afflatus of an exhausted but finally accepting mind, and from without a humble sadness manifesting in the outlandish pageant of revelation. |
