The only naturalistic elements in this interior are a banana and a russet apple, which modelled for me. Afterwards I ate them to remove the evidence of their complicity in this creation. The headline next morning in my studio news sheet: : "More Fruicidal Acts of God". The bottle of varnish and the jar of brushes laughed nervously at this, shutting up abruptly as I entered my domain that morning, scratching my hair into a tousled plume and fumbling my way into my working boots (i.e. my carpet slippers). In the painting the boy stares with mute incomprehension in through the window at this still interior world. He has been locked out for the afternoon by his adult self. |
