Foreword by Ian Courcoux
|
|
| A very brief foreword is all that is necessary. Here are thirty more superb paintings from John Charlesworth, a surreal painter of immense talent. The sheer quality of the work, together with an imagination which leaves me speechless and humour which never fails to have me in fits of laughter, will undoubtedly guarantee a highly successful exhibition in terms of enjoyment for the viewer. |

Since the last show two years ago, John has moved a few miles down the road to a lovely cottage which overlooks the vast expanses of Cumbrian landscape - on one side, fantastic views of the end of the Pennines and, on the other, one can follow the Eden valley all the way to Brough on the A66. Although his studio is small he has still managed to paint some sizeable paintings. |

We have not yet managed to put the intended book of his work together but it will happen. We now have about ninety images of his paintings - and, of course, the narratives which give little insight to the associated painting but do leave one wondering just how this man's mind works. So the book will be published when we can ensure that such a missive can be extensively distributed. |

I don't intend to bore you with a review of paintings in the show. You can see and read for yourselves. All I will say is that John Charlesworth is a unique talent and he deserves all the success and acclaim which I have no doubt will eventually come his way.
