Success can do strange things to people. This now celebrated potter decided that, with his new money, he would live half the year on the Mediterranean island of Pox where, far from being able to work freely, he instead became entangled in unmanageable domestic politics. His wife, through so much swimming, became half-fish, adopted four tiny rock-dwelling darklings and took on the services of a moody and idle native maid who so tormented the husband that he fashioned himself into a festive teapot to sublimate his sexual frustration. When the twins flew out to join their parents for Christmas this was the scene that met them. |
