The History of the World
Wood panel
24" x 20"
£1,650

The history of the world is, of course, an impossible concept. It would, for example, have to include the history of ants and bats, individually as well as collectively. And not only the outstanding individuals, but that quite ordinary ant who lived in a back yard in Cairo between 1642 and 1644. Yes, him.

Anyway, I've always thought of the history of the world as something that can be shown to one from a promontory, as I believe the devil showed Christ the world and all its machinations. This promontory where Mr Duck and his son are standing is an exceptionally good one for such a purpose and though, of course, the two of them cannot see everything, they can see the salient facts -- which only need to be joined up by mental industry.
