Often -- more often than you think -- there is no real verbal equivalent to the imagery in a painting. I had vaguely wanted to have a scene incorporating some kind of benign monster or monsters and ended up -- God knows why -- with a spherically headed man and a giant pear on a rock in a landscape. Perhaps he gazed into the moon until his head became blue moonlike. As I continue to produce paintings from my imagination so I have to dig deeper to come up with something that corresponds to the visual aspect of the work and, in a paradoxical way, profundity produces a sort of superficiality.
The honeymooning couple in the Ford P8 Violet are, of course, Bainty Huss and his new bride Sondrine.
