It was a joint initiative of PM Tony Blair and former PM John Major that brought the Pan-African touring party to England for six 'test' matches at lesser-known rural venues. The series was tied 1-1 when the two sides met in the picturesque setting of Fluffton, an East Cumbrian village not far from the market town of Pearby, and this picture shows the dismissal of opener Mbeki Tuska by wily seam bowler Bill Badger.

It's perhaps worth pointing out for those uninitiated in cricketing lore that the umpires are human beings, a neutral domestic species reared specifically for the purpose in the Isle of Man.
