Foreword by Ian Courcoux

| John Charlesworth's paintings just seem to get better and better. The detail, the composition and the brush strokes are all executed with great thought, patience and confidence.
Equally, the narratives -- such an integral part of any Charlesworth painting -- seem to get increasingly bizarre. They are written very much with tongue in cheek and I always feel that, while they may not tell you a great deal about the painting, they do give you some insight into the mind of the artist. |

On average, Charlesworth paints fifteen works each year but much of his time is spent dreaming up his compositions. I am often asked how John comes up with the ideas. I haven't the faintest idea -- and neither has he! |

Since his last show in 2003 John has moved with his wife Sarah from Cumbria to Dorset and has completed three paintings while in his new abode. I cannot honestly say that I see any notable difference since the move -- I hope that this is an indication of a seamless transition. |

John Charlesworth is an artist of immense artistic talent and humour. As with all his shows, this one should definitely not be missed. Ian Courcoux |
