Arbour Square
Acrylic on canvas
22" x 16"
£2,000

I have a friend, another painter as it happens, who lives in Arbour Square, E1, but I have no qualms that he may feel, should he see this work, that his privacy has in any way been violated because the place shown here bears little resemblance to his house.

Here I show my friend, whom I shall refer to as William Blake, returning to his house on a November daybreak after a night spent walking the streets of London as part of his research for Morbid Maps of the Metropolis, a project inspired by the nocturnal perambulations of the eponymous protagonist of W.G. Sebald's novel 'Austerlitz', prior to his complete nervous breakdown.
