Picture a tall, thin, ascetic figure with iron-grey crewcut and rimless glasses, a dark, expensive suit, a sober silk tie. This is an arbiter of taste, an aesthete. He thinks anthropomorphism belongs solely in the realm of children's book illustrations. He was never a child. He secretly likens his intellect to a Japanese garden.

What shall I do with this man of exquisite sensibilities who hates my painting? I don't know, but meanwhile I send Tom Kitten to spray in his muesli, I encourage Gregory Guinea-Pig to nest in his boxer shorts, I despatch goblins to his wine cellar, legions of incontinent water-babies to his marble jacuzzi.

A fifty pence soft toy with eyes stitched on upside down in a bin with a hundred others at the back of This'n'That has more soul than he does, so why should I worry?

For that very reason. For that precise reason.
