Every few days I go, for exercise purposes, for a route march round the town and on my walk I pass a house called "Bothworlds". I wondered if it was a name from some fantasy fiction such as "The Lord of the Rings", but whatever it's origin I like it and I thought I could show the interior of a house in section as a link between two imaginary worlds, a quasi-biblical one and one closer to home, a coastal scene in winter, the kind of place where you might go for a walk on Christmas Day, if you were lucky. I've peopled the painting with creatures I like; a star-gazing cat person, a book-browsing rabbit, a plain old naughty kitten, a thoughtful fox, a bemused old codger, bemused perhaps because he's been cast in the role of patriarch for the day, maybe even a daft version of God. |
