If asked which of, say, Wayne Rooney or Admiral Nelson was a greater hero I suppose like most older men I'd say the latter, whereas your average youngster would plump for Roons, and neither would be more right than the other. I mean, what do we know of heroism or nobility or any other such historical or philosophical concepts really? I would say an ant dragging a dead earwig across a lawn was as good a definition of heroism as any other. Or a summer's day that was cloudless from morn till night (though some might call that epic rather than heroic). Anyway I'm sure you all have your candidates.
The grey item in the sea, by the way, is my idea of a seagull chick. We have two on our roof. They're always hungry and many consider seagulls a pest but since moving here I have increasing regard for them. They are a parallel community in Bridport.
