I am expressly not a painter of a reality that is unclear and shifting, resistant to graphic definition.. I was trained, if that is the word, to be the opposite of what I am now, because what I am now is what I've always been at heart and most of the people who taught me sought, according to the prevailing art educational principles of the day, to break my natural melody. The idea, I suppose, was that it would be reordered into someone else's art, something that wasn't mine and could be taught. |
