This was done originally for an exhibition up in Cumbria in 2006 which either never materialised or to which an invitation was finally never delivered. The theme and title of the show was to be "Eden", meaning the Eden Valley in the east of the county. I'd lived there with my wife and daughter for over 20 years and for me any submission would necessarily be a looking back, a reflection. I treated the theme simply, picking the happiest part of our life there, a four year spell in the beautiful and enchanted Lyvennet Valley when Sarah and I were still young and Nicola was a little girl.
I show us, in a splendid car (the like of which we certainly never owned), as animals (to avoid having to conjure up direct likenesses) cruising down the hill into our home village of Maulds Meaburn.
