This painting straddled the disappointment and frustration of a dud show sales-wise and it was hard at times to persuade myself it was worth persevering. But paintings come from all sorts of places and can correspond to all parts of your psyche, and may even be alien to other parts.
These Shoe People don't seem unduly fazed by their circumstances, do they? Perhaps they are the successes of a painting that only really connects with a dogged side of my personality. What do they care if the so-called Jurassic Coast looks kind of ugly and hopeless. They're alive, after all.
