| It's four years since our last exhibition of surrealist paintings by John Charlesworth and in this latest show he has certainly not disappointed us. |

There is always a mixture of humour and pathos in any collection of Charlesworths and here it is as poignant as ever. I note that the palette is more vivid in many of the paintings while the tones remain those for which John is known. I wonder whether this may have something to do with his move to Wales from Dorset via Cumbria since 2007. |

Of course, an integral part of any Charlesworth painting is the accompanying narrative - which doesn't always necessarily clarify the point of the image but definitely brings a smile to one's face. |

The diversity of subject material is staggering and demonstrates an imagination way beyond the norm. John Charlesworth is a most under-rated artist whose real value will, I truly believe, only be fully acknowledged in the years ahead. Ian Courcoux |
