| The gallery represented Elisabeth Frink until her death in 1993.
One of Britain's great sculptors, she was also a highly accomplished
painter and printmaker. As the prices of her bronzes have increased
steadily since her death, the interest in two-dimensional work
has increased greatly. The watercolour of Proud
Horse is a classic example. We bought a series of eight of
these watercolours a while back. They had been commissioned by
a major corporation in 1981. Offered at £6,500 in the gallery,
we placed one at auction in November 1999. The buyer paid just
under £8,800 for it. We now have two left. We have also recently
acquired Atlas with Globe maquette from
her estate. Those who take a keen interest in her work will note
that it is no.9/9. The catalogue raisonné shows this as
an edition of 8 -- it is wrong and will be corrected on the next
re-print. |
