Lawrence Murley is a sculptor who is always on the go. After his last show here in 2002, "we went to California (where he and his family had lived for about five years) and got about a ton of Picasso marble and one 250lb piece of lavender marble, which I picked, loaded and shipped myself from Oakland - and, by the way, had a week's holiday in Hawaii!" |

"During 2003, I've been mainly carving serpentine from a new secret location in the gorse. There's a one mile carry-out - no vehicular access. I also started carving a red Turkish marble - nice, tight colourful stone". |
|
"This year I have some multi-coloured Turkish salomi marble which has lovely pinkish shades running through it.However, my major trip in 2004 has been to the two quarries in Connemara who had previously supplied me with small quantities of marble. This time we coaxed the owners with gifts (and money!) to part with just under a ton from the Streamstown quarry and nearly two tons from the Recess quarry". |

"I was also very fortunate to be given several pieces of Galway
black marble, from which the steps of St Paul's Cathedral are made, and
there are a few sculptures in the show made from this". |

"In this exhibition there are examples of work in all the stones with which I have been working and experimenting over the last two years - red and green serpentine, Turkish red and multi-coloured striped, Picasso marble, four different shades and types of green marble, Galway black and, hopefully, lavender". |
|
"On show are a wide variety of shapes and colours showing my expanding spectrum of material and subject and, hopefully, my skill in manipulating the stone is apparent". It most certainly is. Ian Courcoux |
